Many are aware that the FBI estimates that about 1 in 3 of all the adults have a criminal record and about 1 in 12 are convicted felons. What most of us don’t know is that stalking, harassment, embezzlement, fraud, elder abuse, child abuse, and domestic violence are not often classified as “criminal” by the courts and require separate research. About 1 in 3 adults are perpetrators of these other forms of abuse and misconduct. Nearly all background check agencies, to include by the FBI, generally fail to examine these abuse and civil records. As a result, many dangerous abusers are “cleared” as having no record. Comprehensive screening, to include criminal, sex offender, abuse, and fraud cases, protects from internal theft and embezzlement, prevents law suits, and save lives.
